Coco Chanel got it right when she said, “A woman should be two things: classy and fabulous.”  Embracing this fashion philosophy, designers Alyse Radenovic and Sanja Jovanovic have brilliantly launched their made-with-love label, Aelisheva. 

We sat down with Alyse to find out more about their design journey and inspiration for their collection of dresses well-stocked with pristine femininity and understated elegance.

Aelisheva designs exude the essence of chic and sophisticated, however Alyse points out that their past collections were not always viewed that way: “I remember that very early on, the work was characterized, I think, wrongfully as being too edgy.”

 

In past collections, Alyse and Sanja used a plethora of color, endless patchwork, and delicate embroidery on their pieces. Keeping some of those same elements in their current collection, Alyse and Sanja are now focused on keeping it simple, especially with color.  Alyse says, “Now we mainly hear from women who want something to wear to a wedding. The new dresses work very well in all kinds of conservative settings.”

Alyse and Sanja focus primarily on quality of materials:  “For this collection, we used a mix of materials…fabrics with some stretch. In general; however, we use materials that feel comfortable and are luxurious to touch.” The Seeking fam is in love with their abso-perfect black chiffon cocktail dress. Not only will it look fantastic with heels and a clutch, but its fine, soft material will give you the feeling you aren’t wearing anything at all.  What's better than that?

 

Hailing from opposite ends of the world (Alyse was born and raised in the USA and Sanja was born in Belgrade, raised in Paris), the masterminds behind Aelisheva have always shared their passion for design, and felt the persistent itch to work in the industry. Alyse’s experimenting with dressmaking in her youth opened several boutique doors in New York’s East Village.  Later, she found herself working numerous entry-level fashion jobs; Aelisheva did not take off until she met Sanja. 

Trained in fashion design in France, Sanja’s career lead her to work in production for several glamorous fashion houses.  From small to mass production, Sanja has costumed a number of European films and in the last few years has been working with the Siberian National Theater. 

With the skill-set of each designer, the two form the complete team.  They are a designer-match made in fashion-heaven, destined to find each other to produce a fabulous collection replete with class, elegance, sophistication and originality.  We are certain Coco would agree.
