Angela Johnson: New Spring 2009 Eco-Friendly Tee-Shirt Gowns

Seeking's Arizona Fashion Designer, Angela Johnson, announces the release of her Spring 2009 line of eco-friendly, gowns made from recycled, thrift store T-shirts.

Angela Johnson, best known for her “T-shirt Ballgowns”, unveiled her Spring 2009 line of customary, eco-friendly, recycled T-shirt gowns in updated, fresh silhouettes. The new line is available on Angela’s revamped website at www.angelajohnsondesigns.com.

Eco-friendly clothing has always been an integral part of Angela’s line. She has been offering her staple “T-shirt Ballgown” style, a corseted, crinoline lined, ball gown fashioned from recycled, thrift-store T-shirts, for over 7 years. With eco-friendly fashion growing in popularity and the success of her “T-shirt Ballgown” style, Angela has decided to dedicate her entire line to recycling and reconstructing thrift store T-shirts into new and updated silhouettes. The four new silhouettes that make up her current line are the Bubble Dress, the Ruffle Dress, the Baby Doll Dress and the Toddler T-shirt Dress.

The detail that separates Angela’s reconstructed T-shirt dresses from other recycled T-shirt lines is the complexity of the design. As opposed to using one or two shirts to create a simple skirt like most recycled T-shirt lines offer, Angela constructs intricate designs that are highly constructed and made from 5-25 shirts per garment. “I like the juxtaposition of using a casual fabric like screen printed T-shirt jersey to fashion a sophisticated and complicated gown.” Says Angela. “The complexity of the design allows me to use multiple shirts and because each shirt is found at thrift stores or even supplied by my customers, each dress has many different screen printed images on them which make them each a one-of-a-kind.”

Angela’s line is currently sold in stores nationwide and online. A list of stores, more information on Angela and more information on the line can be found at www.angelajohnsondesigns.com.
