1. When did you launch Mimi Kim Jewelry?
Mimi Kim Jewelry was launched in the Spring, 2007.

2. What was the inspiration to create the Mimi Kim collection? In other words, how did it all happen?
The collection evolved on its own. I’ve always loved fashion and art, so I started to create jewelry to complement my outfits and give them as gifts. Boutique owners would ask me about my jewelry and place orders on the spot. Many times they ask if they could buy what I’m wearing right then, especially when I’m traveling.

3. Please describe the style/character of your collection and what sort of woman you created it for?
My collection is fresh, yet sophisticated, modern and versatile. While each piece is designed with meticulous attention to detail, they exude balance and harmony. The women who seek out Mimi Kim Jewelry are chic, fashion forward, confident women that have their own personal sense of style and who appreciate wearing elegant, beautifully custom crafted jewelry pieces.

4. What stores carry the Mimi Kim Collection?
Many upscale, high end boutiques such as elle H in Laguna, goat in Costa Mesa, Selvaggio in Fashion Island and Jacqueline Jarrot at the Beverly Center, to name a few.

5. What is the price range of your jewelry?
The majority of the jewelry retail from $50-$250.

6. What are some of your most popular items in the collection?
This season, the Turquoise with Wood Carved Shell Dangle Earrings have been flying out the door. The calming blue with the espresso brown hues complement any summer outfit and the earrings are so lightweight and fun to wear.

7. Where do you get the components for your jewelry?
I prefer to create many of my own components to infuse character and charm to my designs. I’m also always searching out interesting gems and findings in my travels to add culture and flavor to each piece. Also, I have dear friends that hand carry precious stones from Brazil and Italy back for me.

8. Please describe what types of pieces you use within your jewelry?
I am drawn to the natural elements and love to incorporate natural gemstones, freshwater pearls, wood, bone and exotic shells in my designs.

9. What is your jewelry-making technique?
I endeavor to use a variety of different techniques such as hand shaping and forging sterling silver and rolled gold. My latest “Eco-Silver Collection” is very innovative where I use recycled precious metals that are combined with non-toxic, organic binders which I then hand sculpt and torch each piece individually. Also, my Mini-Mommy line is very popular with haute moms who love to wear personalized charms with their children’s names that I’ve hand stamped and accented with gemstones and pearls of their choice.

10. What sets Mimi Kim Jewelry apart from other jewelry lines out there today?
My personal perspective and passion for jewelry and design.

11. Who do you feel are some of your biggest competitors in the world of fashion jewelry?
That would be myself. I am constantly dreaming up exciting new designs but find it challenging to keep up with creating each new piece. I would literally have hundreds of new collections!

12. What are some trends in jewelry right now and how are you incorporating those trends into the Mimi Kim collection?
Statement jewelry is very of the moment. My Fall Collection consists of very vibrant, bold gemstones along with cascading chains that drape from multiple lengths. These pieces perfectly complement the little black dress and pop against this fall’s minimal look. Also my hand wrapped cocktail rings with chunky Amethyst and Crystal Quartz are stunning and definite conversation starters.

13. Do you have any special projects in the works?
I am thrilled to launch my “Black Diamond Luxury Collection” this month that incorporate brilliant, tiny multi faceted black diamond hand wrapped with 18k and 14k gold.

14. What are some successful past and/or upcoming events you have been a part of in the past?
This last June, Pacific Waters Spa at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, hosted an elegant Open House event where Mimi Kim Jewelry was exclusively showcased. The trunk show generated a lot of press and was very well received. Also in September, I am very honored to be chosen as the only jewelry designer to be featured in the prestigious Orange Coast Art House event where I will also be giving 2 workshops entitled, “The Art of Jewelry Making.” A percentage of all proceeds will go towards art education in OC schools, which is very much needed.

15. What are some future goals for Mimi Kim Jewelry and where do you see your business in 10 years from now?
I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and transform Mimi Kim Jewelry with new and innovative designs and hopefully be showcased in upscale boutiques in major cities around the globe. I would also like to branch out and design handbags, belts and other accessories.

16. If you could describe Mimi Kim Jewelry in 3 words, what would they be?
Chic, fresh and alluring.
